Let’s talk about poop baby!

How often you poop and what sort of poop you make is so important. Many of us have constipation issues well before be move toward menopause - a situation that really needs to be rectified as hormonal changes during perimenopause can only make things worse.
Alterations in oestrogen levels can drastically influence gastrointestinal function.
Our liver is responsible for breaking down and removing excess hormones like Oestrogen from the body. From the liver these hormone metabolites are then sent, via bile into our poo. Every time you poop you are excreting these excess hormones. If we are constipated these oestrogen’s can be reabsorbed and cause oestrogen dominance and exacerbate our menopause systems such as sore breasts, mood swings, fatigue, hot sweats etc.
When poop overstays it’s welcome in the bowel we are also upsetting the gut biome. Normal healthy gut bacteria is replaced by more harmful bacteria which assists the body in reabsorbing toxins meant for waste.
So if you suffer from any of the following you would do well to address your pooping habits. Headaches Back pain Depression Bad breath Insomnia Arthritis Ovarian cysts Sinus issues
One way to help with this situation is to eat more fibre (see yesterday’s post) and drink more water. We also benefit (in so many ways) from reducing simple sugars including alcohol.
so going forward aim to add more Veggies, nuts, seeds and fresh fruit. Consider taking a probiotic. I use optibac (see slide 3). Also foods like sauerkraut- (@janebill keeps me well stocked), miso soup and kombucha all help keep the bowel healthy and clean.
Ideally you should be going AT LEAST once a day.

Your stools should be like a nice smooth sausage or snake (see slide 2 - Bristol poop chart).
If you find you still need help evidence has shown that abdominal massage with rosemary, lemon and peppermint has lasting affects on relieving constipation.
Get pooping girls and don’t be afraid to ask your doctor for help if all the above fails.
